Aging Parents
Next week is a major annual proposal deadline at my job. Today I found out that one co-worker's Mom is in the hospital with a serious infection and a head injury which occurred when she fell out of her hospital bed. And second co-worker came in and let us know that her Dad fell and broke his hip last night and is having surgery this evening. Oh my! My Mom has 3 radiation treatments left for her breast cancer...her prognosis is very good. I'm low man on the totem pole in this job and the one with the least knowledge of the proposal process. But depending on how these folks do/recover, I may be 'in charge'. Now that will be interesting!
This made me think back to when I was a young mother and many employers didn't want to hire young mothers who would likely be out often with sick children. Now I wonder if employers will have an unofficial ban against baby boomers with elderly parents.
The circle of life continues as it always has...I'm just finding myself in a different position now.
