ART UNRAVELED 2009

I have received a reprimand about my infrequent postings so I plan to do better. I am at Art Unraveled right now in Phoenix and having an awesome time. Yesterday I took a course title Soldering Demystified with Rebecca Brooks. She laughed that the course could be called Soldering for Brazen Hussies. :-) I learned a lot, made a fan pull, and plan to purchase a kit so I can do more soldering at home.

Today's class was Wooden Collage Vignettes with Karen Michel. AWESOME class, so much fun and walked away with art pieces I am tickled about. Hope to continue to use these tecniques and materials.

FRIENDS - So great to see AU friends I have known fro previous years. My CA buddies Angelica and Laura, Cynthia from Virginia Beach, Helen from Boston, and fellow Texans Janice and Carol. New friends Mita, Trish, Katie and more.

Oh, last night I went swimming and it was heavenly. Could see the mountains in the distance from the pool which was so warm. I'm debating now...go swim or not.

In the morning I have Sketch and Watercolor on location at the Botanical Gardens. Leave early..like 6:30 so we can get back by 10:30 or so before it gets unbearably hot. Instructor Jane LaFazio. I can't wait.

Rebecca Brooks has been an instructor at Art Unraveled and she started this drive to earn money for a charity for the poor children of Oaxaca. Many other instructors I have met at AU are participating. In particular I am anxious to see the shrines contributed by Katie Kendrick, Michael DeMeng, and Anne Grgich.

What a great time we all had. I am a solo Lubbockite attendee and even though I have shown up not knowing a soul, I've made some great friends and had lots of fun in class with so many ladies. For those as far away as Australia and Montreal, to those who live just around the corner from the Embassy Suites, this conference feels like home to those of us who love art-ing.

Art Unraveled 2007 - more photos

It is fun getting emails from new friends I met at AU. Heard from Laura, Karen and Terry recently. I wanted to post a few more photos.

The b/w photo is of me with Angelica and Laura (CA ladies) at the awards banquet. I posted two other Uber Self Portrait photos...Karen's is the long hair and Ruth's is the one with the hat. That class was unbelievably fun and I have had requests from friends here in town to teach a class so might try to do that in September sometime.

Art Unraveled 2007

AU was wonderful. I made new friends and got to visit with friends I met last year and year before. Everyone always thinks my accent is cute. And I think I don't have much of an accent.

I LOVED my classes this year. Favorites this year were Embossed Bracelet and Uber Self Portraits but Karen Michel's Altered Imagery, Kelly Kilmer's Taped Journal, and Anne Grgich's Obsessive Paintbrushe were all super fun too. Since I've gotten home I have primed a canvas that I'll mount my self portrait on and played around with altering photos.

Above you see me Uber Self Portrait that I created in Tracy Bunkers class. This class was so much fun and I look forward to doing this wild, wonderful, whimsical portraits for others. Two funny things...my mother-in-law seems to not believe this started with my photo. I admit the purple and crimson hair is a fair reach from my gray hair. And my little grandson Freddie (who is Hispanic) was funny when he saw my self-portrait. "Ummm, Mawmaw, I don't want to be rude or anything but tha pictures looks like you are a Mexican." Kids do still say the darndest things.
